Bottlenose dolphins, pilot whales, Atlantic spotted dolphins, Cuvier`s beaked whales, sperm whale
In October 2022 we encountered five different species of whales and dolphins on our responsible whale watching tours off La Gomera.
The following species were observed on our tours in October:
- bottlenose dolphin
- pilot whale
- Atlantic spotted dolphin
- Cuvier`s beaked whale
- sperm whale
In October, our guests were able to observe pilot whales on most tours. We also saw bottlenose and spotted dolphins and even two Cuvier’s beaked whales and a sperm whale. These encounters are rather rare and correspondingly exciting. We were even able to observe the sperm whale interacting with pilot whales.
During the pilot whale sightings we spotted many calves, including newborns. Most of the time they are quite relaxed, but there were also sightings where they were surfing in the waves. Some of the bottlenose dolphins were also very active and the spotted dolphins enjoyed riding the bow wave.
