Pilot whales, Atlantic spotted dolphins, Bottlenose dolphins, Striped dolphins
We have recently seen the following whale and dolphin species on our whale watching tours off La Gomera:
- Pilot whales (Indian pilot whales)
- Atlantic spotted dolphins
- Bottlenose dolphins
- Striped dolphins
The year is coming to an end and unfortunately we have not been able to make many trips this month due to many stormy days and choppy seas. However, we were able to enjoy a few moments with the pilot whales and bottlenose dolphins. Some of the bottlenose dolphins were seen shortly after leaving the harbour and were curious and acrobatic. At one point, it was even the offshore bottlenose dolphins that showed us their tricks. They are significantly larger and more powerfully built than their offshore relatives.
The spotted dolphins came to visit and eyed us curiously and we were also able to observe striped dolphins, albeit only from a distance, but at least briefly on their way into the unknown.
We also spotted a moonfish, a hawksbill turtle and 2 hunting sharks.
We are excited to see what awaits us in the new year and who we will encounter and observe and are happy and grateful for all the strange and wonderful encounters this year.
The sighting rate for the entire period was 86%.
