In November 2021 we encountered five different species of whales and dolphins on our responsible whale watching tours off La Gomera.
The following species were observed on our tours in November:
- bottlenose dolphin
- pilot whale
- Atlantic spotted dolphin
- striped dolphin
- rough-toothed dolphin
On most of our tours in November we encountered the fascinating, deep-diving pilot whales. They are a resident species here and we can observe them all year round. The dolphin species we encountered the most in November was the bottlenose dolphin. We also had two sightings of Atlantic spotted dolphins as well as one of rough-toothed dolphins and one ofstriped dolphins. The striped dolphins are usually rather shy and don`t approach the boat very often. The rough-toothed dolphins are a crew´s favorite and we always get very excited to see them.
Unfortunately on November 11 we discovered a dead sperm whale with severe injuries. The authorities were informed and we documented the case and took samples for further analysis. It is most likely that the whale was killed by a high-speed ferry.
