Pilot whales, Bottlenose dolphins, Spotted dolphins, Rough-toothed dolphins, Baleen whale, Risso’s dolphins, Loggerhead turtles
We have recently seen the following whale and dolphin species on our whale watching tours off La Gomera:
- Pilot whales (Indian pilot whales)
- Bottlenose dolphins
- Spotted dolphins
- Rough-toothed dolphins
- Baleen whale (unidentified)
- Risso’s dolphins (round-headed dolphins)
- Loggerhead sea turtle
The turtle was entangled in plastic waste and had already swallowed some. It was so weak that it could barely keep its head above water. We collected it and passed it on to the responsible centre in Gran Canaria. She was treated and recovered quickly so that she could soon be released back into the open sea.
This month we had a sighting rate of 86.5%!
UPDATE: After an operation and lengthy rehabilitation, the turtle was released back into the open sea on 10 July 2024.
