Pilot whales, Bottlenose dolphins, Spotted dolphins
We have recently seen the following whale and dolphin species on our whale watching tours off La Gomera:
- Pilot whales (Indian pilot whale)
- Bottlenose dolphins
- Atlantic spotted dolphin
During the last few sightings, we spent a lot of time with the pilot whales and bottlenose dolphins. At last, the spotted dolphins were back in the area more often, so we were able to enjoy their energy, their playfulness and, above all, their ‘flying skills’. One day was very special. We travelled to see gulls and cory shearwaters flying around and diving wildly. They seemed to be feeding on a school of fish. We had high hopes that there would also be dolphins. And so it turned out to be. Spotted dolphins, cory shearwaters and seagulls were helping themselves to a school of fish. It was so exciting to watch this spectacle.
We also came across a rare visitor – a cormorant.
There was a happy ending: We were able to release the turtle that we had found tangled up in plastic in january back into the sea! It only has 3 flippers left, but we hope that it will continue its journey without any problems.
The sighting rate for this period was 95%.
