Bottlenose dolphins, pilot whales, Atlantic spotted dolphins, beaked whales, rough-toothed dolphins, striped dolphins
In November 2022 we encountered six different species of whales and dolphins on our responsible whale watching tours off La Gomera.
The following species were observed on our tours in November:
- bottlenose dolphin
- pilot whale
- Atlantic spotted dolphin
- beaked whale (species could not be identified)
- rough-toothed dolphin
- striped dolphin
As in previous months, we encountered bottlenose dolphins and pilot whales (short-finned pilot whales) on most of our tours. The smaller dolphin species, Atlantic spotted dolphins as well as the usually shy striped dolphins, showed up in November and also the rare rough-toothed dolphins. A mostly short pleasure is the sighting of beaked whales, as they do not spend much time at the surface between their long and deep dives.
Although the ocean can be a bit rough in November, we were very lucky with the weather conditions this month.
