Sightings in September 2025

Rough-toothed dolphin, Pilot whales, Blainville’s beaked whales, Bottlenose dolphins, Spotted dolphin, Striped dolphin, Beaked whale, Loggerhead turtle

We have recently seen the following whale and dolphin species on our whale watching tours off La Gomera:

  • Rough-toothed dolphin
  • Pilot whales (Short-finned pilot whales)
  • Bottlenose dolphins
  • Atlantic spotted dolphin
  • Striped dolphin
  • Blainville’s beaked whales
  • Beaked whale (unidentified)

In September, we were finally able to welcome pilot whales back after a long time! They were often accompanied by bottlenose dolphins.
The rough-toothed and spotted dolphins showed their curiosity once again as they swam along in our bow wave, even though they were initially busy hunting or playing with each other.
Striped dolphins are rarely seen and are usually very nimble. Fortunately, during one tour, they swam alongside our boat for a while.

Twice we spotted beaked whales in the distance, but unfortunately we were unable to identify them. However, during another tour, we encountered Blainville’s beaked whales.

The sighting rate for this period was 74%.
