Sperm whale, Rough-toothed dolphin, Pilot whales, Blainville’s beaked whales, Bottlenose dolphins, Spotted dolphin, Striped dolphin, Baleen whale, Beaked whale, Loggerhead turtle
We have recently seen the following whale and dolphin species on our whale watching tours off La Gomera:
- Sper mwhale
- Rough-toothed dolphin
- Pilot whales (Short-finned pilot whales)
- Bottlenose dolphins
- Atlantic spotted dolphin
- Striped dolphin
- Blainville’s beaked whales
- Beaked whale (unidentified)
- Baleen whale (unidentified)
October started off with a rich variety of species! Spotted, striped and rough-toothed dolphins provided some moving moments.
The pilot whales ‘helped’ us fish a piece of plastic out of the sea.
Even a sperm whale swam past Valle Gran Rey heading north. We were just able to observe it from a distance before it began its long dive.
Although only briefly and yet often, we encountered beaked whales, including Blainville’s beaked whales.
There may also have been a baleen whale nearby. Unfortunately, we couldn’t identify it, but the characteristic blow in the distance gave it away.
The sighting rate for this period was 100%.
