Sightings from 01.03.26 to 15.03.26

Common dolphin, Spotted dolphin, Pilot whales, Bottlenose dolphins

We have recently seen the following whale and dolphin species on our whale watching tours off La Gomera:

  • Common dolphin
  • Atlantic spotted dolphin
  • Pilot whales (Short-finned pilot whales)
  • Bottlenose dolphins

Short-finned pilot whales and bottlenose dolphins greeted us on several tours, including the offshore bottlenose dolphins, which are slightly larger and more robust than those living off our coast. Very impressive.
Spotted dolphins demonstrated their excellent cooperation with Cory’s shearwaters while hunting, as well as their playfulness while riding the bow waves.

We had the special pleasure of observing many common dolphins hunting on two tours, and also watching them approach our boat and ride the bow waves after they had eaten their fill.

For the past few days, we’ve also been seeing a large whale, most likely a baleen whale, swimming nearby. Just a blow, just a brief glimpse of its back, then it’s gone again and doesn’t show itself anymore. It keeps us on the edge of our seats.

The sighting rate for the entire period is 75%.
